How do I switch to Texans Choice Power?
Switching is easy! Just enter your zip code, select your plan, and we’ll handle the rest. There’s no service interruption, and we’ll coordinate everything with your current provider. Most switches complete within 1-2 billing cycles.
Will my electricity be interrupted during the switch?

Residential Plans & Billing
How does billing work?
We offer flexible billing options including online bill pay, automatic payments, and paperless billing. You’ll receive your bill monthly based on your actual usage, and you can track your energy consumption through our online portal anytime.
Do you offer AutoPay or paperless billing?
Yes! Texans Choice Power offers AutoPay for hassle-free payments and paperless billing, so you can manage everything securely online.
Are there any hidden fees?
Absolutely not. We believe in transparent pricing. Your rate per kWh is clearly stated, and we’ll show you all applicable fees upfront. No surprises, no fine print—just honest pricing you can trust
Do I need to pay a deposit to start service?
Some customers may be required to pay a deposit based on credit history. If you qualify, we also offer deposit alternative options and waivers based on state guidelines.
When will my service start after I enroll?
Most enrollments activate within 1–3 business days, depending on whether you choose a standard switch, self-selected switch date, or a move-in request. If a deposit is required, activation may take a little longer while that step is completed.
What happens if I move?
No problem! Just give us a call at least two weeks before your move date. We can transfer your service to your new Texas address if we serve that area, or help you close your account if you’re moving out of state. There are no early termination fees for moves.
Will my electricity be interrupted during the switch?
No. ERCOT ensures your electricity stays on during provider changes, so only your billing provider changes — not your service.
Outages & Utility Questions
Who do I call if my power goes out?
Even though Texans Choice Power is your electricity provider, your local utility (TDSP) handles outages.
Call the utility for your area:
- CenterPoint: 800-332-7143
- Oncor: 888-313-4747
- AEP Texas: 866-223-8508
- TNMP: 888-866-7456
Your utility is responsible for poles, wires, meters, and restoring power.
What does my utility company do vs. Texans Choice Power?
Texans Choice Power is your electricity provider, meaning we supply your energy plan, rate, billing, and customer support.
Your utility company (TDSP)—like CenterPoint, Oncor, AEP Texas, or TNMP—handles the delivery of electricity to your home or business. They maintain the poles, wires, meters, and are responsible for restoring power during outages.
Think of it this way:
Texans Choice Power → Your electricity supplier (billing & rates)
Utility Company (TDSP) → Your delivery provider (infrastructure & outages)
Why do I still see utility delivery charges on my bill?
Utility delivery charges—called TDSP fees—are standard for all Texans, no matter which electricity provider you choose. These charges go to your utility company to maintain the grid, repair equipment, read meters, and deliver electricity to your home.
Every electricity provider in Texas passes these fees through at the exact same rate, because the utility sets these charges—not Texans Choice Power.
